How to Connect with a Higher Spirit through Nature

People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out but their true beauty is revealed when darkness sets in only if there is a light from within.
Here is how to find that inner harmony that you desire.

Steps :

    1
Find a slightly isolated location. It may be rare to find a perfect place unless you live out in the country so make the best of what you have already.

    2
Find a comfortable position. Whether you're lying down gazing at the sky or sitting up meditating, just be sure that your posture allows for correct breathing.

    3
Be at peace. If a person or non-natural sound distracts you, be happy for the occasional reality awakening. Finding yourself and connecting with the universe is beautiful, but it might become too easy to slip away from what's real.

    4
Connect with your senses. They may be of an earthly substance, but if you're using nature to accompany you in the process, this is the best way. It is a very pleasant experience when you are aware of what really exists. You will begin to realize and be thankful for the true beauty that surrounds you.

    5
Look within and accept. It's important to know who you are and to occasionally find time to walk inside the beautiful temple of love that was given to you by the eternal creator. This is not to be associated with religion. It is spirituality (spirit = soul) and it is all you need to survive, because it provides you with the essence of life.

    6
Talk to Mother Nature. The plants love the voices all around them. Tell them you are thankful to have them. Even so sing to them. They are like us in so many ways. We just don't always notice right away. Calm your thoughts and your body and embrace their beauty. Connect your soul with theirs... and you will find happiness within yourself. When you connect your soul and all your thoughts are clean and free.. you may feel energy passing through them to your soul. It can happen. Just believe in yourself. You can accomplish anything that comes your way.

Ask yourself:
        What are they in reality?
        Who, what designed them?
        Was it you or me?

    7
See the sky. Blue above you, with white on it and a golden globe, closing your eyes because it is to sharp to look into.

    8
Use the mind to connect. What we think are only words; they have no meaning for another, ask the bird the name of the yellow globe. And what will be his answer? In Hindi, they call the sun Surya, in Dutch Zon, Yust in another. When you have a bowl with green soup, and you throw a firecracker in it, you know it did not change into tomato soup. Thus how can it be that there is all the variation on this planet, like wind lighting? We are all the same shape, even with the difficulties of understanding each other when we are together, we are still the same.

Community Q&A

How can I become friends with animals too?

Be friendly with them. If you have a pet, always have time for them. Give them food and have a playtime with it. In that case, you and your pet/animal will be friends. Learn to read animal behavior and respect them.

I work with a spirit animal (a wolf). How do I connect with Nature?

Whether you have a connection to an animal spirit or not, you can still connect with Nature as described above. However, you can also communicate with your animal spirit and connect with Nature via your animal spirit's energies.

Tips

Forgive everything. Not just people, but also your past and many other things. This will give you the sense of wholeness.
Believe. Children are young and happy because they don't limit their imagination. They know all things are possible.
Become one with all. This will broaden the aspect of equality in your daily life.
Learn. To know is the heart's desire.
Cry. If the eyes had no tears, the soul would have no rainbow. If anyone asks, simply state they are tears of joy.
Ditch gadgets for once and look out the window.

Warnings

People may try to convince you out of spirituality. Ignore their persuasive techniques and give them hopeful insight.

How to Deeply Connect your Body with Nature
By: Bess O'Connor

The first step in connecting your body with nature is realizing that you are nature – not separate from – but an integral part of it all. Your body is made up of all the same elements, minerals and energy that makes up the planet. Many quantum physicists and scholars believe that everything in the outer universe is a reflection of our consciousness and our body. The percentage of water on the planet, for example reflects the same percentage of water in our bodies, etc.

And though it’s true we are nature-beings, we can still fall out of alignment with our natural selves. Wellness is essentially being in tune with nature and aligning ourselves with the inherent wisdom that is within us all. At a certain time of night, for example, we get tired. That’s the body’s natural circadian rhythm at work. Whether or not we choose to go to sleep at that time, however, is up to us. And not listening to our body’s (often blatant, but sometimes subtle) cues could be the difference between health and sickness.

A new study also shows what everyone already knows and feels – that spending time in nature dramatically reduces stress and is even anti-inflammatory. Researchers found that positive emotions experienced through nature, are linked to lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (proteins that signal the immune system to work harder).

Connecting with ourselves (a part of nature), our body’s signals and the great outdoors are key in optimal wellbeing.

Here are 7 great ways to deeply connect your body with nature :

Change your mindstate. Realize that nature is not just something on the outside in your environment, but a part of your very being.

The same water that flows in the in the ocean runs through your bloodstream.

The same vitamins and minerals in nature are the very substance from which your bones and body are built.

The oxygen that we breathe is a from a symbiotic relationship between humans and trees in which we both provide the necessary element for one another to live and thrive.

The fire that burns to heat up our body is the same fire in any flame or even the sun.

Our bodies are created from nature and at the end of this incarnation we give our physical bodies back to Mother Earth. Through meditation and physically going outdoors, we naturally connect with our extended body.

Cloud- and star-gaze. Looking skyward can be a tool to transcend space-time reality. Many ancient civilizations looked to the stars for guidance and power.

As above, so below.

We are made up of stardust and learning about the stars can take us beyond the mundane and into supreme consciousness. Just like we used to do when we were children, cloud-gazing is a fun form of meditation. So again, look to the sky for that which is already within you, pure energy.

Go barefoot. Our skin breathes and absorbs vitamins and minerals from the earth. If you go barefoot on the beach, for example, the negative ions from the natural salts in the sand and sea are said to have magnificent healing effects on the body. If you’re not near the sand, simply digging your feet into the dirt or soil can be of benefit. In short, let the skin of your feet touch the Earth, on the grass, soil or sand.

Sun and moon gazing. We all look up at the moon at night being that it’s the brightest thing in the night sky. But have you ever looked … for a long time and felt the connection with the moon? We all know the moon is responsible for fluctuations in the oceans high and low tides. But did you know that the moon has a significant effect on our emotional state or “internal waters” as well? Not to mention a woman’s menstrual or “moon” cycle, is directly affected by the moon’s waxing and waning.

Sun gazing is an interesting practice that has been going on for eons. Some people even report not needing food by simply gazing into the sun during certain times of the day (typically during sunrise and sunset). During these times the sun does not have harmful effects on the eyes and is even said to increase energy, vitality and eyesight.

Listen to your body. It’s really simple – when you’re tired – sleep. When you’re hungry – eat. When you’re energized – move your body. When you’re in pain – listen up, ask “why?”, and nurture yourself. It may be that you need a massage, to stretch more or maybe to just slow down … you’ll know … just ask!

Get friendly with the elements. Whether that means you take a swim in the ocean or go camping in the forest, simply put – get into nature. Learn about crystals and minerals and their healing powers. Study the different plants, flowers, animals and all of life’s creatures.

Breathe the air in an area abundant with trees.

Climb a boulder or mountain.

Listen to the birds, the wind in the trees and all the sweet sounds of nature.

Do meditative forms of movement such as tai chi, qi gong or yoga in nature.

Imagine roots growing into the ground from your feet and your arms being the branches of the tree...what fruits do you bare and what are you grounded into?

Imagine you are a hawk in the sky…how would you feel and where would you go?

Imagine you are any of your favorite animals and feel their energy in your body...because it is there.

You are able to tap into any part of nature, because it is inherently in you. No matter how long you stay indoors, at a desk or under fluorescent lighting. The truth remains – you are nature and nothing can take that away from you.

Our Spiritual Connection to Nature
By Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
May 25, 2011

The realities explored in science and spirituality are often assumed to be unrelated to one another. Both find their basis in a spirit of inquiry. Modern science is objective analysis, while spirituality is subjective understanding. Science explores the outer world with a series of questions beginning with the basic query, “What is this? What is this world all about?” while spirituality begins with the question, “Who am I?”

In the ancient world these two forms of knowledge were not in conflict but were understood to have a deep and subtle connection. Man’s knowledge of himself complemented his understanding of the universe and formed the basis for a strong and healthy relationship to the creation in which he lived. It is the disconnect between these two types of knowledge that is causing many of the challenges that we face as a global community today.

Ancient wisdom describes human beings as having five layers of experience: the environment, the physical body, the mind, the intuition and our self or spirit.

Our connection with the environment is our first level of experience, and one of the most important. If our environment is clean and positive, it has a positive impact on all the other layers of our existence. As a result, they come into balance and we experience a greater sense of peace and connection within ourselves and with others around us.

An intimate relationship with the environment is built into the human psyche. Historically, nature, mountains, rivers, trees, the sun, the moon have always been honored in ancient cultures. It’s only when we start moving away from our connection to nature and ourselves that we begin polluting and destroying the environment. We need to revive these attitudes that foster our connection with nature.

Today we live in a world where many have become greedy and want to make quick profits and achieve quick results. Their actions disrupt the ecological balance, and not only pollute the physical environment, but also stimulate negative emotions on a subtle level, within themselves and also in those around them. These negative energies expanded and compounded again and again are the root cause of much of the violence and misery in this world.

Most wars and conflicts are triggered by such feelings and result in damage to the environment, which then takes a long time to restore and repair. We need to attend to the human psyche, which is the root cause of pollution, both physical and emotional. If compassion and care are kindled within ourselves, they will form the basis for a deeper connection to, and care for, both others and the environment.

In ancient times, if a person cut one tree, he planted five in return. The ancient people did not wash clothes in holy rivers; only ashes from cremation were submerged in the river so that everything dissolved back into nature. We need to revive traditional practices of honoring and conserving nature.

Nature has its own means of balance. If you observe nature, you will see that the five elements that form its basis are opposed to each other. Water destroys fire, fire destroys air. Then there are so many species in nature — the birds, reptiles, mammals — and all these different species are hostile towards each other, yet nature balances them out. We need to learn from nature how to balance opposing forces, both within ourselves and in the world around us.

Above all, we need to be able to experience our world with an open mind that is free from stress, and from that place we need to create the means of protecting our beautiful planet Earth. For this to happen, human consciousness must rise above greed and exploitation. Spirituality, the experience of one’s own nature deep within, provides the key to this vital relationship with oneself, with others and with our environment. This connection to our own essential nature eliminates negative emotions, elevates one’s consciousness and creates a spirit of care and commitment for the whole planet.

What would help to elevate our consciousness and deepen our connection? Here are a few basic and effective pointers:

1.    A proper diet. Our food influences our mind. The Jain tradition has done much research on the effect of food on the mind. Ayurveda and Chinese systems and many other native systems the world over have recognized the effect of food on the psyche. Modern science confirms that food can have a direct bearing on our emotions. Emotionally disturbed children tend to eat more and suffer from obesity. A properly balanced diet has a positive impact on our emotions and thereby on our consciousness.

2.    Light to moderate exercise.

3.    Panchakarma. In the ancient medical system of Ayurveda, there is a process of internal cleansing called panchakarma that involves massages, a prescribed diet and cleansing. This has helped thousands of people come out of stress and behavioral disorders and is also a curative for many illnesses.

4.    Yoga, Pranayama and meditation. These are extremely vital to induce a sense of respect for one’s own body and the environment. They help maintain a toxin-free system and thereby reduce the occurrence of emotional disturbances.

5.    Music and dance. These can bring rhythm and harmony in the body-mind complex; especially music that is not too loud and violent. Music that is soothing and creates a gentle sway and rhythm in one’s system, like folk and classical music.

6.    Nature. Spending time in nature, observing silence and engaging in prayer is very congenial for helping us to reflect on our own mind.

7.    Last but not the least: service to the less fortunate.
